The Athens Law School proudly participated in the 18th International Roman Law Moot Court Competition, held at the University of Oxford from April 8 to 12, 2025.
The School was represented by students Ino Partheniadi, Grigoris Kontopoulos, Giorgos Gropas, and Ioanna Stathakarou. Following a strong performance in the preliminary rounds, the Athens Law School team advanced to the bronze final, where they faced the University of Cambridge in the historic library of All Souls College. The round was adjudicated by a panel of professors from the Universities of Oxford and Trier.
The Athens team prevailed over Cambridge, securing third place overall in the competition. The University of Oxford claimed first place, with the University of Liège finishing second. In addition, student Giorgos Gropas was awarded the Best Oralist Prize, having earned the highest individual score among all competitors throughout the event.
The team’s preparation was guided by Professor Athena Dimopoulou, with the invaluable support of student coaches Danae Argyropoulou, Maria Margariti, Rodanthi Karavasili, and Maria Fefe — winners of the first prize in the 2024 edition of the competition, hosted by the University of Vienna — along with lawyer Artemisia Papadaki.
This year’s competition challenged participants to argue both sides of two legal actions, one concerning unjust enrichment and the other a contract of sale , engaging with complex issues in general principles, obligations, property law, and the law of persons, all within the framework of Justinian’s Codification, the foundational text of Civil Law traditions worldwide.
We express our gratitude to the law firms Zepos & Yannopoulos, Karatzas & Partners, PotamitisVekris, and Kyriakides Georgopoulos for their generous sponsorship and unwavering commitment to promoting the global standing of Greece’s distinguished legal education.
